Nurit Kress was trained as a Marine Scientist at the Technion, Haifa and at the Department of Oceanography at Oregon State University, Corvallis. She has taken a particular interest in the Chemical Oceanography of nutrients in the Eastern Mediterranean, being part of the POEM-BC programme. She has also worked extensively on marine pollution projects off the Israeli coast and elsewhere.

Dr Kress will be part of the Chemical Oceanographic team with CYCLOPS providing dissolved nutrient analyses in the microcosm, addition experiments as well as taking the lead role in the annual cruises to the Cyprus eddy in 2002-2003. The nutrients will be measured in the lab in Haifa and will provide a backup to the real-time nutrients that are to be measured by the UK partners.

She is also the local coordinator of the project and is on the Steering Committee. As such all the work of making certain the logistics of the addition cruises and the microcosm experiments work is her responsibility.
