Michael Krom
Michael Krom is the overall project coordinator of CYCLOPS. His interest in the Chemistry of the Eastern Mediterranean developed during the period when he was Head of Department of Chemical Oceanography and Marine Pollution at the National Institute of Oceanography, Haifa, Israel (1986-90). A series of studies were carried out to investigate the chemical, physical and biological properties of the Cyprus eddy. He was also the first author of a paper suggesting that the eastern Mediterranean is the largest body of water in the world that is Phosphorus limited. Since moving to Leeds in 1991, he has maintained his interest in the geochemistry of the Mediterranean and in particular trying to understand the reasons for the unusual P limitation of the Levantine basin. His major job within CYCLOPS is trying to make sure that everything happens when it is meant to happen. However Leeds does also have a scientific programme. This will involve measuring phosphate and D.O.P. at the low levels found in surface waters of the Eastern Mediterranean. Leeds will also be involved in the sampling and subsequent measurements of dry atmospheric deposition to the basin. Site design by Conkersoft |
