Dr Tsuneo Tanaka has worked on the predator-prey relationship between heterotrophic nanoflagellates and bacteria. Now his interests include the understanding of the structure and function of microbial loop/microbial food web, not only in the euphotic layer but also in the aphotic layer. In CYCLOPS, he measures total particle distribution, nanoflagellate abundance as well as growth and ingestion rates of microbial components.
