Dr George Zodiatis has more than 20 years experience in Physical Oceanography (field experiments, numerical modelling, satellite remote sensing, operational ocean forecasts) of the Mediterranean Sea. He has actively participated as associated researcher or scientific coordinator in more than 15 national, international and European Union research projects such as:
POEM-I (Physical Oceanography of the Eastern Mediterranean Sea), CYBO (Cyprus Basin Oceanography), MFSPP (Mediterranean Forecasting System Pilot Project), CYCOFOS (Cyprus Coastal Ocean Forecasting and Observing System), MEDAR/MEDATLAS-II (Mediterranean Hydrological Atlas), MERSEA-1 (Marine Environment and Security in the European areas), MFSTEP (Mediterranean Forecasting System Towards Environmental Predictions) and MERSEA-IP (Marine Environment and Security in the European areas- Integrated project).

From 1985 to 1995 he was a researcher at the Department of Physical Oceanography of the National Centre for Marine Research, Athens (Greece), then from 1995 to 2004 he was the Head of Oceanography at the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research in Cyprus. Since 2004 he is the Vice Director of the Oceanography Centre at the University of Cyprus.

His contribution to the CYCLOPS project concerns :
a. CTD data collection from the sampling station of the study area
b. CTD data processing from the relevant cruises
c. analysis and interpretation of the horizontal and vertical distribution of the CTD data
d. estimation of the general circulation pattern of the area under study
